Deschutes Jasper comes from an area near Biggs, Oregon, near the Deschutes River. This area is now encompassed by a State Park with no collecting allowed. Because of this, finding material is more difficult with most coming from older collections.
Deschutes is referred to as a "Picture Jasper" which has orbs and scenic patterns in many shades of brown. It is a type of Chalcedony which is in the Quartz family. This material is very stable, quite hard and takes a fabulous polish.
Below you will find several cabochons.
As always, thanks for looking at On The Rocks and Rock On!
